Remembering Aalia: A Special Tree & Vigil

A sapling cherry tree surrounded by floral tributes outside the St Mary's Le Strand churchyard on the Strand Campus, in memory of Aalia Mahomed, a King's College London student.

In memory of Aalia Mahomed, a second year Physics & Philosophy student who was sadly killed on Tuesday 18 March, there is a place to gather outside St Mary's Le Strand where, with the endorsement of Aalia’s family, we have placed a cherry tree with branches either side and surrounded it with the beautiful tributes you have left.

We will be planting the tree as a permanent memorial to Aalia.

Condolence books are also available at the Strand Chaplaincy room K2.34, in the Physics and Philosophy departments or online, for you to share your memories, as well as your thoughts and prayers for Aalia’s family and loved ones.

We are holding a vigil on Tuesday 25 March at the Strand Quad at 10.45 for an 11.00 start. This will be a quiet and peaceful time for us to come together and remember Aalia. Attendees are invited to wear Aalia’s favourite colour of dark green or green if they wish.

If you have been impacted by this tragic loss, please reach out to your Faculty Wellbeing Advisor or seek support through our out-of-hours and weekend support service TogetherAll. You may find these words from Rev’d Dr Ellen Clark-King some comfort, too.
