Dharshini Ramani, a Banking & Finance MSc student, shares a few tips on apps and social media accounts that can make your university life easier.
Downloading and deleting apps, following and unfollowing social media accounts – it’s part of every student’s life. But here’s a list of apps and social media accounts which I’m sure will be helpful for your time at King’s.
Citymapper
Although London has one of the world’s best transport systems, it can be super-confusing to navigate because of how big the city is. Citymapper is not just another navigation app. It gives an extensive list of transport options along with their fare price and travel duration. You can also easily explore step-free access tube stations and routes. I mostly use Citymapper to find when my next bus is coming and which stop my bus currently is at.

Trainline
The UK is full of beautiful and buzzing destinations. As students, we want to explore these places as cheaply as possible. You can book tickets to go across the country with Trainline. It even has the SplitSave feature which lets you buy the cheapest ticket for your journey by splitting it into separate tickets. Don’t forget to add your 18-25 railcard to get discounted tickets.

King’s Student App
This is the one stop shop for all your King’s needs. From Student Records to Report and Support, you can find every King’s website on the King’s Student App. I use this app for literally everything. KEATS is built in, which means I can whizz through my lecture notes at the last minute. Campus maps are really helpful when I get lost around the maze-like but beautiful King’s campuses. Plus, you can get updates on upcoming events, interesting opportunities and recommendations for what to do across all campuses by following different pages. Fortunately, you only need to use Multi Factor Authentication once and not every time you log into the app.

King’s Moves +
Are you a fitness freak? Or do you prefer walking like me? This app is great if you are looking to get fit and to get fabulous discounts at the same time! King’s Move+ tracks the number of steps you take in a day and gives you points. Later, you can use the points to get gifts and discounts like a hot drink at a King’s restaurant or an exercise mat.

Unidays/Student Beans
Who doesn’t love a discount? With Student Beans and Unidays you can find all student discounts in one place. Luckily, I found out about these apps through King’s Money Mentors. During Talk Money Week, I visited one of the Money Mentors’ stalls and they introduced me to these apps. From then on, I’ve used these apps to find hot deals on clothing and food.

Too Good to Go
Once the doors are closed, many restaurants throw away perfectly edible food. The Too Good to Go app addresses this problem. You can find restaurants that sell their delicious food at discounted prices during closing hours. This app is a life saver for students who are looking for ways to save money on food.

Notion/OneNote
For note-taking lovers like me, you’d be a fan of OneNote, part of the Microsoft Office package and Notion. I use these apps to write my lecture notes. You can add graphs and tables to your notes and arrange the notes based on dates and months.
