King’s Move

What is King's Move?

King’s Move is an app that rewards you for being active. Whether you’re walking, running, cycling or swimming you can earn points just for being active.

You can then redeem your points for rewards such as a Kings food hot drink, a King’s Sport & Wellness Gym Day pass or a King’s Move Hoody. Its completely free to join.

FAQs

No, King's Move is completely free! The platform was created purely to help motivate the King's community to stay active during their busy schedules.

The Moves+ app currently tracks, steps walked, miles run, miles cycled, metres swum.

Moves+ does not collect data associated with any other activities so, if your tracker/wearable allows you to log different types of activity (eg weights or rowing), then any steps recorded during this activity will not be collected by Moves.

You can directly connect with the following trackers and wearable devices:

  • Apple Health (iOS devices only)* – no wearable device required.
  • Fitbit – you will need to purchase a Fitbit wearable device, we recommend the Fitbit Charge 3 or above. This tracker is recommended for swimmers.
  • Garmin
  • Google Fit – no wearable device required.
  • Strava – no wearable device required. App is recommended for cyclists and runners.
  • Withings (Health Mate app) – you will need to purchase a Withings wearable device.

There are more details within the app about the benefits of each of these tracking apps so you can choose the right connection for you. Visit the ‘My tracker’ section within the profile page.

You can only connect one tracker at a time! If you have two trackers or apps downloaded on your phone, e.g. a Fitbit wearable and Google Fit app, we recommend that use one tracker/wearable with Moves+; there is no need to attach Fitbit to Google Fit and Google Fit to Moves+, for example.

Remember that you will need to connect one of the above trackers to your Moves account to earn points.

We have an array of rewards you can redeem from King’s including Kings Sport & Wellness merchandise and activity, Kings Food and Drink and Kings Move clothing.

The rewards available to redeem will be shown in the 'Rewards' page of on the Moves+.

The app will display rewards as:

  • Available – you can redeem this reward.
  • Coming soon - the reward will become available on a set date in the future.
  • Not enough points - you cannot redeem until you collect more Moves+ points.

There’s two ways to claim a reward:

  • Merchant Claim

Follow the instructions, you will be prompted on pressing claim to hand your device to the salesperson you are redeeming the reward. They will confirm receipt of the claim on your device.

  • Code Claim

On claiming the reward, a unique code will be revealed. Instructions will be given on how to use the code to claim your reward.

Details about 'how to redeem' your reward will be written in the Reward Description of each listing. Additional information and any Terms will be listed in the Terms of Service of each listing.

It is important to read the Reward Description and Terms of Service in full for each reward before redeeming, so that you are aware of all of the information and any action that may be required by you, the user.

Please note: points will not be refunded for rewards redeemed by accident, or for not following the instructions provided.

Once a reward is claimed it cannot be undone. The app will always give you a final warning, if you claim by mistake you cannot reclaim your points.

Yes, but you can't join more than one type of challenge, for example: you can't compete in two step challenges.

Annual Points Reset

As per the Terms of Use that were updated in November 2023 - All users points will be reset to 0 on 31 August every year at 08:00, to align with our annual reset. If users have not redeemed points before that date they will be lost and will not be transferred.

King's Move app is a great motivational addition - collecting points just works on me! Especially when I noticed how running is rewarded compared to just walking, the app had certainly made me go for that 10k run on more than one occasion.

Troubleshooting

Apple Health will only sync activity when you open the Moves+ app. If you don’t open the Moves+ app, any points earned will be rolled over. We recommend that you open your app every day.

When a tracker or wearable device's software is updated, it can sometimes lead to issues with its connection to Moves+.

If you’re having issues contact us at kingsmove@kcl.ac.uk, so we can either support directly or raise the issue with our Application Provider.

Please check that the verification email has gone to your junk or spam folder. If you haven’t received it after 24 hours, please let us know.

I have had a difficult year and to be honest, these rewards and challenges were often my only motivation to get out of the house.
