Showcasing Care Trailblazers: Peggi

Care Trailblazers are entrepreneurs and innovators participating in the Healthier Working Lives programme, that are helping to shape and tackle issues in the sector. In this article, we spotlight 'Peggi' - an award winning app developed and founded by Glenda Devlin.

Glenda Devlin knew the potential of reminiscence therapy for those diagnosed with dementia, including her Aunt Peggy. Glenda, a qualified social worker with 20 years’ experience in health and social care, wanted to equip other families with the tools that had improved her aunt’s wellbeing in her final years.

Peggi is an app designed using findings from clinical research into reminiscence therapy. The app is supported by Barclays Eagle Labs, and has evolved into an award-winning app aimed at building connections and reducing loneliness.

The Healthier Working Lives team (HWL) is working with Glenda in a new project to explore the potential of digitising the ‘Circle of Care’ – in the Peggi app.

We are working on how my app, Peggi, may be used in Care homes – it’s a multi-media app, designed for connection, to facilitate memories, legacies, life stories and reminiscences … and our opportunity will be to adapt this for use with the care workers in our two care homes.– Glenda Devlin, Founder of 'Peggi'

The project aims to introduce a holistic perspective regarding what care is, where it flows from, which aspects should account for and how this will impact the care workforce.

We know the pressure on care-givers is tremendous. Embracing change is a real challenge but we know that, given time and care, we can start through communication and ‘baby’ steps to really support the workforce and make a real difference in the longer term.– Glenda Devlin, Founder of 'Peggi'

John Mathers, HWL Enterprise and Design lead, met with Glenda met in July to explore their project and its proposition.
