Course overview

The Summer English Language and Culture module is designed to be an intensive and intellectually stimulating short course. The module provides students with an opportunity to develop their language skills at a B2 level (CEFR), whilst experiencing an immersive cultural experience in one of the world’s leading global cities. 

What does this course cover?

King’s Undergraduate Summer English Language & Culture Programme is a two-week course aimed at students who want to continue developing their English language skills alongside studying aspects of UK culture on campus in London. This intensive course is for students who are at a B2 level (CEFR) and takes an active-learning, communicative approach to develop confidence and fluency in English.

This programme will increase students’ understanding and appreciation of the different customs, cultural aspects and diversity of society in the United Kingdom. Alongside this it will develop students’ confidence, fluency and communicative ability in English.

What will I achieve?

  • Students will develop their confidence, fluency and communicative ability in English through participating in groupwork, small group classes, presentations and lectures.
  • Students will develop a greater understanding of aspects of UK culture and society through texts, lectures and experiential learning.
  • Students will develop their intercultural competence through interacting with others from different backgrounds

Who is this for?

  • Open to students who are currently, or have been, enrolled in an undergraduate degree programme.
  • Applicants must have studied English to at least level B2 in the Common European Framework of Reference for languages (CEFR).
  • Please provide evidence of your English proficiency from the list below:

- IELTS score of 5.5 (or equivalent)
- TOEFL paper-based test: we require a minimum of 470
- TOEFL internet-based test: we require a minimum of 52
- TOEFL computer-based test: we require a minimum of 150
- Duolingo English: we require a minimum test score of 95
- CET 4 We require a score of 425 or above
- UEE (University Entrance Exam) We require equivalent to level B2 in CEFR

What is the teaching schedule?

A minimum of 45 hours contact hours, as well as independent study, and assessment preparation. Taught on-campus any time between the hours of 9am and 6pm from Monday to Friday.
