Course overview

King’s Pre-University summer courses offer participants an in-depth exploration of the chosen subject area(s) at degree level and give students experience of university-level study. King’s courses provide insight into the key debates, themes and cutting-edge research areas of each of the subjects. Students will enjoy research-enriched teaching through seminars, lectures, workshops and experiential learning activities. Students will need to successfully complete the assignments of each module and meet attendance requirements in order to receive a Certificate of Completion.

What does this course cover?

This module is created to be a short course version of the type of teaching and learning you would expect to see on our BSc in Psychology, offered by the King’s Institution of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience (IoPPN), which is currently second in the world for psychology and psychiatry. Many of our students go on to become successful clinicians, researchers and academics. While others choose to use their skills in a variety of industries including business, technology, consultancy and the public service. This short course is designed to give you a flavor of the types of research and practice the IoPPN is world renowned for. We will cover some of the most important theories, approaches and methods to a range of clinical conditions.

What will I achieve?

By the end of the module, you should have:

  • experienced a variety of learning activities typical of a first-year undergraduate degree in Psychology
  • built on your existing knowledge of core topics covered in a first-year undergraduate degree in Psychology
  • carried out independent research on a given topic and produced a structured and well supported response to an assignment brief
  • worked collaboratively in diverse groups to produce a presentation

Who will I learn with?

Bridget King

Lecturer
