Course overview
Pre-University Summer School courses helps prepare students for university. The course offers an in-depth exploration of a subject area at degree-level and improves students’ understanding of university study. Our courses provide insight into the key debates, themes and cutting-edge research areas of a subject. Students will have the opportunity to collaborate on group assignments and experience social learning which are central elements of undergraduate study.

What does this course cover?
This course has been designed to provide a condensed experience of a 1st year undergraduate Computer Science module. Led by King’s academics, students will study major programming principles, program design, program efficiency and advanced topics with a strong emphasis on both theoretical and practical skills. This course will promote independent thinking and critical analysis and students will develop problem solving skills by apply algorithmic, mathematical and scientific reasoning to a variety of computational problems. This module will consist of lectures with embedded tutorials, interactive activities, small group projects, and peer-assessment activities to provide an engaging and challenging experience, as typically encountered in our undergraduate programme at KCL. This course will be based on Matlab, which is widely used in most leading universities and teaching programmes.

Who is this for?
The King's College London Pre-University Summer School is open to high-achieving students who are about to start or who are enrolled in their final two years of high school and are typically aged 16 and 17. Students must be aged 16 before the start date of their course.
