Course overview
King’s Pre-University summer courses offer participants an in-depth exploration of the chosen subject area(s) at degree level and give students experience of university-level study. King’s courses provide insight into the key debates, themes and cutting-edge areas of each of the subjects. Students will enjoy research-enriched teaching through seminars, lectures, workshops and experiential learning activities. Students will need to successfully complete the assignments of each module and meet attendance requirements in order to receive a Certificate of Completion.
What does this course cover?
This pre-university summer module, delivered by King’s Business School, offers a focused introduction to accounting and finance, distilled from our leading BSc programme. Designed for those curious about studying in London, at King’s, it provides a five-day taster experience. Each day covers essential topics, including preparing income statements and balance sheets, valuing companies, and evaluating investment options. With an emphasis on interactive, practical learning, the course incorporates real-world case studies, simulations, and experiments to make the learning engaging and accessible for all. By the end of the module, you'll gain valuable insights to help you decide if London, King’s, and a future in accounting and finance is right for you.
What will I achieve?
By the end of the module, you should have:
- Learned the core principles of financial reporting, including the structure of income statements and balance sheets.
- Understood key concepts in company valuation and investment decision-making.
- Applied theoretical knowledge to real-world scenarios through case studies, simulations and hands-on exercises.
- Analysed financial information to assess company performance and investment opportunities.
- Evaluated different investment options and make informed financial decisions.
- Created simple financial reports and models that reflect the principles learned during the course.
- Built confidence in analysing financial information and making informed decisions.
Who is this for?
The King's College London Pre-University Summer School is designed for academically motivated students looking to excel in a global context.
Entry requirements:
- Students need to be enrolled in their final three years of high school
- Students must be aged 16 or 17 before the start date of their course
- Personal statement
- Students must have studied English to at least level B2 in the Common European Framework of Reference for languages (CEFR). If your first language is not English, you will need to provide evidence of your English proficiency. What is the teaching schedule?
Taught on-campus between 9am and 5pm from Monday to Friday.
