Founded in 2010, we are the only dedicated Department of Political Economy in the United Kingdom.
Housed in Bush House, on the Strand Campus, our central London location offers easy access to the full range of facilities and experiences both inside and outside the world of politics and economics, across this major world city. Our teaching and research recognises that the disciplines of Politics and Economics are inextricably linked. It is not possible to properly understand political processes without exploring the economic context in which politics operates. Similarly, sound economic analysis requires an awareness of how resource allocation is conditioned by political institutions, historical context and ethical values, and the way these have been understood by different traditions in social thought.
In a world characterised by financial uncertainty, ecological insecurity and value conflict, the links between political and economic processes are ever more apparent and the need for a multifaceted appreciation of how they operate, has never been greater.
The Department of Political Economy is also a member of the PolEconUK group.
