Our research-intensive department houses internationally renowned scientists working across diverse and interdisciplinary fields.

Physicists at King's are developing new ways to unlock biological mysteries to develop new medical technologies, working to understand how atoms and molecules at the nanoscale shape our macroscopic world, furthering advanced photonic and scanning probe techniques to create novel nanomaterials, and continuing Maxwell’s work in the unification of physics.

Our research cuts across disciplines within the Faculty of Natural, Mathematical & Engineering Sciences including through the Net Zero Research Centre and the health faculties including through the Centre for the Physical Science of Life. 

Research groups

Our research groups bring together scientists working across diverse and interdisciplinary fields, including biological physics and soft matter; photonics and nanotechnology; the theory and simulation of condensed matter; theoretical particle physics and cosmology; and experimental particle and astroparticle physics.
