Invisible Explorers

Investigating subatomic particles

Welcome to Invisible Explorers, your gateway to the fascinating world of particle physics! Our mission is to ignite curiosity and foster a deep understanding of the invisible particles and forces that shape our universe.

Designed for GCSE students, we have an array of engaging resources, all tailored to make complex physics concepts easy and enjoyable to learn. Explore the interactions of subatomic particles and discover the fundamental forces that govern everything around us.

Join us on this exciting journey and become an explorer of the invisible realms of physics.

The best thing was learning maths and physics things and meeting qualified independent women."

What is a neutrino?

In this activity you’ll uncover the mysteries of neutrinos, the elusive particles that pass through matter almost undetected. You’ll not only learn what neutrinos are and their role in the universe, but you'll also develop essential maths skills. Through guided exercises, you’ll estimate probabilities related to neutrino detection and calculate their velocities, applying real-world data and scenarios. This activity combines particle physics with practical mathematical applications.

Step 1: Watch this video

Dr Jeanne Wilson, Professor in Particle Physics, introduces us to neutrinos, elusive particles that pass through matter almost undetected.

Neutrinos: changing identity

Discover the bizarre and mysterious world of neutrinos! You'll get to measure them in real-life experiments and explore the gigantic Super-Kamiokande in Japan. Plus, you'll step into the shoes of a physicist, identifying different types of neutrinos from an event display.
