International connections with Nursing at King’s

Here at the Florence Nightingale Faculty of Nursing, Midwifery & Palliative Care, we know how important it is for everyone to have equal access to high quality health and social care, wherever they are in the world.

Our international aims

Our aim is to improve health and social care for all through research and education.

We partner with organisations and institutions around the world to ensure our teams develop a global mindset and have access to opportunities at a local, national and international level.

Our students, researchers and staff

Our students, researchers and staff come from all over the world to study within our internationally recognised faculty.

We’re home to a globally diverse student body who bring together international perspectives. These perspectives are critical to addressing the changes and challenges in global healthcare.

Our international collaborations allow us to apply our research and the latest global evidence and guidance to healthcare around the world and allow our network to be at the forefront of change.

International opportunities

International electives for aspiring nurses and midwives

We provide opportunities for our students to take the knowledge and global mindset they’re learning with us and put it into practice.

Elective placements are an opportunity for our pre-registration nursing and midwifery students to choose where they undertake a part of their practice learning during their studies with us.

During an international elective, students learn about nursing and midwifery in a different social, cultural and/or organisational environment. International electives also offer our students a chance to pursue specialist interests within an area of practice.

Thanks to our connections, our pre-registration students get a comprehensive clinical education and the chance to work on placements in health and care all over the world. In 2017, students undertook international electives in 79 countries, from Japan to Namibia.  And when international travel wasn’t possible during the pandemic, we worked with our partners to create an award-winning innovative and immersive experience for nursing students online.

"I thoroughly enjoyed my time on the research elective. It gave me a great opportunity to see what midwifery research can look like. We spent our time meeting members of the Faculty who shared their story of how they got into the world of research, explained their area of research to us, discussed applying for funding as well as giving us advice and top tips for becoming a researcher. It was lovely to have an insight into the field and see the different stages of a research project."

Our international partnerships

Ngee Ann Academy in Singapore

Educating nurses to degree level is associated with lower mortality rates and better patient care. Partnering with Ngee Ann Academy in Singapore, we offer a King’s degree taught fully outside of the UK. With a mixture of classroom sessions and online learning, the course is designed to equip qualified nurses with critical skills that will transform how they approach challenges in their careers.

Nanjing Vocational Health College in China

We provide education and consultancy to teachers and qualified nurses through our partnership with Nanjing Vocational Health College (NVHC). We have been successfully collaborating with Nanjing Vocational Health College for five years, during which time we have built an international partnership to celebrate. Read a celebration of our collaboration (2022-24) (PDF).

"Firstly, King's College London is world-renowned for its nursing courses, which meant I would receive first-class training and support. Secondly, I was excited about the opportunity to move from studying in China to the UK. It was a great way to broaden my horizons and learn from a global perspective."
