The German Research Foundation DFG announced on 10 May 2024 that the International Research Training Group "Metabolic and Endocrine Drivers of Infection Susceptibility" is among the 17 new DFG-funded research training groups. The new group called MEDIS is a joint initiative of TU Dresden, University of Zurich and the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETH Zurich), led by Prof. Stefan Bornstein, Director of the Medical Clinic and Policlinic III at the University Hospital Dresden. The DFG is funding MEDIS with around six million euros; the IRTG is being set up at the TUD Medical Faculty.
MEDIS will expand and strengthen the international research network on metabolic, endocrine and infectious diseases, as Stefan Bornstein is also speaker of the International Research Training Group on metabolic diseases with King’s College London, and some of the PIs are involved in both groups.
Congratulations on this great success therefore also came from King’s: “This is another great achievement that is a testimony of Stefan’s vision and skill” said Mauro Giacca, Head of the School of Cardiovascular and Metabolic Medicine & Sciences, in his congratulations.

This unique collaboration aims to deepen the understanding of the relationship between metabolic and infectious diseases and to foster a new generation of talented physicians and scientists, laying the foundation for the establishment of another transCampus of TUD with UZH and ETH Zurich.
