Macadam Building (Strand)

The Macadam Building was in need of renovation throughout, with the move of many student services previously located here moving into the newly refurbished Bush House buildings.

Many of the spaces were vacant, this included the Student Union, Student Services, a doctors’ surgery and outdated seminar spaces which were largely disused due to poor repair, building services were also outdated. 9 of the 10 levels of the Macadam building were refurbished to provide 8 new floors of high-quality learning and teaching spaces including a 100 seat lecture theatre, modern centrally timetabled seminar spaces including flexible spaces and spaces with hi-flex seminar technology, Physics teaching & research labs, digital humanities student hub, new student shower facilities and new and upgraded building services including refurbished plant room and WCs. The project was delivered over 4 phases totalling circa. £11m and was completed in February 2020.
