Welcome to the School of Immunology & Microbial Sciences at King’s College London
The School of Immunology & Microbial Sciences conducts high-quality research, education and training in immunobiology, inflammation biology, infection and liver studies in the context of health and disease. The School consists of four Departments: the Peter Gorer Department of Immunobiology, the Department of Infectious Diseases, the Department of Inflammation Biology and the Roger Williams Institute of Liver Studies. Our collective mission is to advance human health and wellbeing by exploring the complexities of pathogens and the immune system.
A hub for world-class research
We are proud to lead cutting-edge research into immunology and microbiology, focusing on areas such as autoimmune diseases, cancer immunotherapy, chronic inflammation, infectious diseases, transplantation and liver diseases. Our research takes a multi-disciplinary approach, leveraging state-of-the-art technologies and collaborative expertise to uncover the mechanisms that drive and regulate immune responses and infection in their complex environments. By investigating the interplay between immunity and pathogens, inflammation, and broader health challenges, we aim to translate our findings into meaningful clinical and societal impact. Our commitment to translational science means that the discoveries made in our labs contribute directly or indirectly to new diagnostics, treatments, and preventive measures.
Our state-of-the-art facilities and access to King’s College London’s extensive infrastructure provide an ideal environment for innovation. In particular, the close collaboration between discovery and clinical research drives our impact. By fostering an open, collaborative research culture, we empower our scientists to pursue bold questions and tackle emerging challenges in the biomedical sciences.
A commitment to education and training
The School of Immunology & Microbial Sciences is equally dedicated to education. We are passionate about inspiring and equipping the next generation of scientists, researchers and clinicians to tackle the challenges of tomorrow.
