Briefly could you introduce yourself and what you do at King's?
Hello, my name is Jasmine Ilesanmi and I am the student lead for the Nightingale Network for Black and Ethnically Diverse students (or NNBEDS for short)! I am also a third-year children's nursing student.
For anyone who might not be aware of it, can you explain what the Nightingale Network for Black and Ethnically Diverse Students is?
NNBEDS is a new network that our faculty made to promote a positive approach to discussing race and diversity. It is different to the Nightingale Society, in that it is linked to the faculty and not the student union (however we will be doing a lot of events with them this year!).
What is your role in the Network?
As the student lead for this network, I have the responsibility of planning different events this year and being a point of contact for students in our faculty, whether acting as a listener for anyone who needs to talk or signposting people to where they can access support. There will be different drop-in sessions throughout the year for anyone who needs to talk.
What recent work has the Network been involved in?
As this network has only properly started this year we have not been involved in a lot, however, our most recent event was introducing ourselves at the Welcome Receptions this September!
How can students and staff access the Network?
Students can access the network in two ways! The first way is by emailing me jasmine.ilesanmi@kcl.ac.uk to be added to our Teams Group where you will be able to hear about everything, we are doing this year. The second way is to follow our new Instagram @nightingale_diversity_network where we will be letting you know about any events running this year!
What plans do you have for the upcoming academic year?
This year we plan to have many events with the Nightingale Society and the Student Experience Team such as a Meet and Greet in September and the Winter Warmer Wellbeing event that has been running for several years!
As stated, our network is very new so we would love to hear from you about any ideas you have and about anything you want to see this year! So please email or message me on Instagram to let us know!
Anything else that you'd like to mention?
We can't wait to see you all at our events this year!
