The Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience (IoPPN) is one of the world’s leading centres for mental health and related neurosciences research.
We are the world’s second most cited institution carrying out psychiatry and psychology research, with 12 of the most highly cited scientists in this field in the world.
All of our postgraduate research students operate in world-class facilities, and benefit from fantastic support networks and training opportunities. These include a range of general training and development courses, aimed at enhancing personal, professional and career skills provided through the Centre for Doctoral Studies along with more targeted courses provided through the Health Sciences Doctoral Training Centre, of which all our students are a member.
MPhil/PhD or MD(Res) programme?
We offer two different routes in postgraduate research study: MPhil/PhD and MD(Res). Please see our departmental webpages or the course list below to explore your options.
Our MPhil/PhD programme allows students to carry out research in any of our departments and in a wide variety of areas. And the MD(Res) programme is designed to allow medical graduates to gain a postgraduate research degree through a more flexible route than a PhD.
