Other study options

The Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience (IoPPN) offers a free, one-week summer school in the heart of South London. It aims to inspire and enthuse those considering a career in psychiatry, and provide an insight into the innovative, exciting and rewarding field of clinical and academic psychiatry.

Student placements are suitable for undergraduates studying for a first degree at a UK institution, wanting to spend a formal placement under supervision in one of our academic departments.

The Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience (IoPPN) in liaison with the South London and Maudsley Hospital, one of the largest and most well-established centres for mental health treatment in the UK, runs a Medical Electives scheme for medical students from the UK, EU and overseas interested in undertaking a clinical placement in Psychiatry or any other discipline related to Mental Health.

Erasmus+ traineeships (formerly Erasmus work placements) are suitable for students enrolled at an EU university on a full degree programme at undergraduate or postgraduate level, who would like a period of supervised study at the IoPPN typically for their research dissertation.

Visiting research student placements are suitable for postgraduate research students registered at a recognised higher education institution (HEI) or overseas institution, coming to undertake supervised research at King's.

Our aim is to increase understanding of how the brain and the mind work and to use this understanding to improve the treatment of psychiatric and neurological disorders. This is one of the most exciting and important areas of advancing medical science, and we invite you to join us.
