Our Schools

 

The Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience is divided into 14 academic departments across three major academic Schools: Academic Psychiatry, Mental Health & Psychological Sciences, and Neuroscience.

Each School embraces research, education and clinical translation to further understand and improve mental health and treat disorders of the brain, and train the next generation of researchers and practitioners, as well as informing the wider community. The IoPPN enables a unique level of collaboration between these Schools, allowing our research and study to be carried out in the wider context of mental health as a whole. 

School of Academic Psychiatry

Encompasses the whole spectrum of psychiatry from public policy to molecular genetics, from psychological treatments to brain imaging.

The School of Academic Psychiatry comprises the departments of Addictions, Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Forensic and Neurodevelopmental Science, Psychological Medicine, Psychosis Studies and the Centre for Healthy Brain Ageing.

School of Mental Health & Psychological Sciences

Spans a wide range of areas of expertise from childhood to older age and from basic research through treatment development and implementation, and on to healthcare and society.

The School of Mental Health & Psychological Sciences comprises the departments of Psychology, Centre for Social Genetic and Developmental Psychiatry, Biostatistics & Health Informatics, and Health Service & Population Research.

School of Neuroscience

A hub for ground-breaking research, with a vibrant education programme and a network of scientists and clinicians with diverse expertise, working across all aspects of neuroscience.

The School of Neuroscience comprises the departments of Basic and Clinical Neuroscience, Developmental Neurobiology, Neuroimaging, and Wolfson Sensory, Pain and Regeneration Centre.
