Informatics outreach

The Informatics Department houses a wide range of research, including artificial intelligence and robotics, cybersecurity, and human-centred computing – and we are committed to sharing this work through a variety of programmes.

We are developing a number of projects that work with school groups, and we are keen to support young people from all backgrounds who might be interested in studying computer science or artificial intelligence in our department.

Unlocking AI & Computer Science

Are you interested in studying AI or computing at university? Then join us in this programme for female and non-binary students in Y12-13 based anywhere in the UK. In this online series, you’ll learn all about these fascinating topics from experts in our Department of Informatics. You will discover all about their cutting-edge research, hear about what’s it like to be a woman in this area, and have the chance to chat with other school students interested in computer science in a supportive and welcoming environment.

Girls Robotics Challenge

A new year-long programme, where teams of students from Years 8 to 11 compete to design and build robots, supported by our world-leading scientists and engineers. Participants will follow a design-led approach, developing and improving their robots over the course of the year, before testing them at a final event at King’s together with teams from other schools. This is an amazing opportunity to gain a wealth of hands-on experience in all aspects of robotics, from electrical engineering and coding to product design and prototyping.
