Student projects

We work with many organisations in the public, private and third sectors to design impactful student projects at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

Through the Knowledge Exchange Project scheme, our students get to apply the skills and knowledge gained durign their degree in real world contexts. Our Computer Science and AI students complete a project as part of their degree in collaboration with industry partners, including businesses, charities, public sector organisations and other areas of King’s.

We also run a scheme with Amazon Web Services, where teams of students hack innovative, digital solutions to challenges faced by the public sector in London and the South, spanning issues as diverse as sexual health, social housing, and waste management.

Knowledge Exchange Projects

Students in their final year undertake an individual project worth approximately 300 hours of work per undergraduate. Alongside other opportunities such as our Year-In-Industry degrees, these projects enable students to tackle a real-world challenge at the forefront of computer science and AI.

Our Computer Science and AI programmes celebrate the diverse backgrounds of our students and offer personalised guidance for their final projects, encouraging students to take on relevant and impactful projects. To support this, we offer Knowledge Exchange Projects (KEPs) as part of our programmes.

Learning with Amazon Web Services

The programme sees final year students attend Amazon Web Services (AWS) workshops and tutorials to gain essentials skills and knowledge needed to harness AWS technology for creating innovative digital solutions. They then apply these skills to tackle community challenges on behalf of public bodies and organisations in London, including councils and charities.

The Impact Accelerator, a collaborative effort with AWS, is a pioneering initiative designed to enhance impact capacity and capabilities within our department. In partnership with an innovative organisation with a commitment to data-driven decision-making, and robust computing resources in data science and AI, the Accelerator aims to propel our department into the forefront of cutting-edge solutions.
