Industry Advisory Board

Our Industry Advisory Board supports interactions between the Department and industry in a non-executive capacity. It includes senior representatives from industry sectors aligned with the research groups in the Department.


 

In addition, the board includes representatives from relevant regulatory and professional bodies and from Academic and Research Committees.

Members are appointed for an initial three-year term. The board convenes once a year. Benefits for board members include networking opportunities; access to academic partners for EPSRC and Innovate UK projects; and access to a large student population to undertake projects of industrial relevance.

Terms of reference

  • To advise the Department on the industrial relevance of undergraduate and postgraduate courses, and to suggest changes to courses and degree programs.
  • To review the research activity of the Department in terms of industrial relevance, and to provide assistance, where suitable, with letters of support, internships, etc.
  • To help shape the Department's strategy by providing guidance on long-term developments and trends within the industry.
  • To identify opportunities for commercialisation of research.
  • To report any existing or emergent conflict of interest to the head of Department, who will recommend the most appropriate course of action to address the conflict (including, for instance, a suspension of the membership until such conflict is exhausted.
