Postgraduate research



The Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience is one of the world’s leading centres for mental health and related neurosciences research. All of our postgraduate research students operate in world-class facilities, and benefit from fantastic support networks and training opportunities, including the Researcher Development Programme (RDP). The RDP provides our students with a range of training and development courses, aimed at enhancing personal, professional and career skills.

The Department of Health Service & Population Research (HSPR) welcomes applications from both UK and international students. Research conducted by students and staff in HSPR aims to:

  • Improve coverage and access to evidence-based mental health treatment and care;
  • Drive-up the quality of mental health services, and achieving the best outcomes for those that use them;
  • Understand the effect of social and cultural contexts on the delivery and use of mental health services;
  • Expose and challenge stigma and discrimination, promoting recovery and rights;
  • Develop and test methods to improve the design, analysis, evaluation, cost-effectiveness and implementation of health treatment and care.
