President’s Global Leadership Award: Postgraduate

The President's Global Leadership Award is open to all King's students studying a postgraduate taught course. From Autumn 2024 the module is also available to postgraduate researchers. Please note that postgraduate researchers are not able to submit assessments for formal recognition.

The PGLA is an online module with weekly webinars. Some classes are also available face-to-face. It aims to provide insights and conceptual understandings about global leadership.

Postgraduate Taught

Applications for the Term 1 and Term 2 cohorts are now open.

Apply by completing the registration form: Registration form PGLA PGT 2024-25

All King's students on a postgraduate taught degree, in any faculty, can apply to take this module alongside their degree.

For some students, this module may be available as an 'optional module for credit' as part of your degree programme. You will know if this applies to your programme upon registration.

A weekly online module will help you to develop distinctive leadership skills in service to society, in a global context. You will reflect on your own leadership aims, identify the values that mean most to you as potential leaders, and work to put these values into practice.

Through case studies of leadership, selected readings and assessment tasks, you'll build a formidable understanding of leadership theory and practice.

The coursework includes a variety of exercises and invites you to work in a variety of formats. The result is a corpus of work that defines, analyses and evaluates leadership and demonstrates your evolving thoughts and feelings around leadership.

By the end of the course, you will have:
> explored what it means to be a global leader in the twenty-first century.
> engaged systematically and creatively with leadership theory and practice.
> analysed and evaluated leadership as a social practice.
> developed self-direction and acted autonomously in planning and implementing leadership tasks.
> shown originality in tackling and solving leadership problems.
> demonstrated a culturally competent view of assessing global challenges.

You will submit three assessments: two 500-word reflections and a 1,500-word leadership proposal. The assessment is designed to consolidate and enhance learning, exploring global leadership as a collaborative social practice.

Applications open annually. You can apply via the application form once it's open.

If you successfully complete the President's Global Leadership Award, it will be featured on your Higher Education Achievement Report.

Hear what Stephen has to say

Stephen Adombire (Clinical Nursing MSc, 2018) speaks about his experience undertaking the award:

"You really get to appreciate how these individuals who are or have been at the forefront of leadership practice have used some of those theories and concepts in solving real-life leadership challenges...

...so you’re really inspired by the examples and the experiences and your confidence in your own leadership abilities begins to grow."
