The evidence is clear that women political leaders can inspire younger women to become interested in and involved in the political process. As well as exploring the importance of the role-model effect of women who hold political office, GIWL’s research highlights the difference women make in politics by shifting the focus onto different policy issues, by often displaying more collaborative and inclusive leadership styles, and by enhancing the quality of democracy. When women are able to assume positions of political power, the whole of society benefits.
