Our mentoring offering
Who helped you get to where you are today? Perhaps you remember certain people who gave you career advice, introduced you to new connections or simply just listened to your concerns. By mentoring with King’s, you could help a student or graduate reach their potential too.
Your experience is invaluable to the next generation. Giving up your time to become a mentor gives you a chance to make a real impact. You might help a current student assess their career options or provide advice to a recent graduate searching for their first industry role.
There are lots of ways you can get involved with mentoring, either as a mentor, a mentee or both.

Leadership mentoring programme
The King’s Leadership Mentoring Programme hand-matches students with leading alumni professionals for a six-month mentoring journey.
Make a difference to students
As a mentor, you can help a current King’s student unlock their potential for their future career. By sharing your workplace experience and leadership expertise, you can support our students to:
- Gain real-life insight into industries and roles they wish to enter
- Better understand how to successfully navigate the professional world
- Develop important soft skills, including reflection, goal-setting and more
- Grow their confidence and motivation to take the next steps for their career.
The programme is open to undergraduate and postgraduate students, and to reach the students who will benefit most, priority will be given to Careers+ participants from underrepresented and disadvantaged backgrounds.
Benefit as a mentor
Not only is mentoring a rewarding experience, you’ll also benefit too. You can:
- Develop your listening, questioning, and rapport-building skills.
- Add to your experience and confidence in developing people.
- Expand your professional network and connect with your King’s community
- Feel a sense of purpose in making a difference to the next generation.
No prior mentoring experience is necessary as training and support will be provided by King’s Careers & Employability and the Alumni Office.
Taking part is flexible as mentoring sessions can be arranged online or in person between you and your mentee. The 2024-2025 programme will run from December to May, and we ask mentors to hold at least three one-hour sessions across the six months of the programme.
Mentor registrations for the 2024-2025 programme have now closed. If you are interested in mentoring or joining other volunteering opportunities at King’s, please register your interest via our Volunteer Your Time form.
