Our world-leading research aims to deepen our understanding of the enviornments and societies in which we live. It focuses on tackling global challenges related to environmental dynamics, development, ecosystems services, risk and resilience, and urbanisation.
The scale of our work ranges from the local to the global – and from the national to the international. It is theoretically informed, policy-oriented and inclusive: we use innovative research methods and seek to ensure that our findings are accessible to a wide range of people and a variety of different audiences. This includes undergraduate and graduate students, as well as policymakers and the public.
King's Geography has six key research groups: Contested Development, Earth Observation & Wildfire, Physical & Environmental Geography, Political Ecology, Biodiversity & Ecosystem Services, Risk, Hazard & Society and Urban Futures. These groupings of academic, research staff, professional services staff and PhD students make up our research engine, generating new knowledge, managing research projects and publishing in their areas of impact.
