Work for us
The role of Fundraising and Supporter Development (FSD) is to connect the University’s supporters with ways that they can contribute to and support the amazing work King’s is doing to make an impact.
This supporter community ranges from alumni to philanthropists, and from major corporates to trusts and foundations.
Facilitating these connections involves a wide range of skills from across our teams, covering events, fundraising, writing, alumni engagement, finance, communications, data, compliance, administration and more.
What is FSD working to achieve?
Universities are the places where answers to the world’s biggest issues are explored, and solutions uncovered.
Every member of our team is helping the University make progress in the five areas where it believes it can have the biggest positive impact:
- Building a thriving and sustainable planet - one we safeguard and steward with urgency
- Fostering whole-life health for mind and body - through pioneering advancements in prevention, medicine and healthcare
- Advancing equality and social mobility - so that access and attainment are not defined by background
- Working toward peace and justice in a turbulent world - to strengthen resilience and forge pathways to sanctuary
- Developing technology for good - designing a future that empowers us to live well with technology
You can find out more about each of these areas and the projects within them here.
Part of our contribution to the University’s impact, is leading on fundraising to support the King’s Maudsley Partnership. The partnership brings together the clinical and academic excellence to transform the way we understand, prevent and treat mental ill-health in children and young people. Its central hub is the world-leading new Pears Maudsley Centre for Children and Young people, opening in 2025.
We also run an outstanding alumni programme, designed to keep former students engaged with the University. By staying in touch with our alumni, we create a lifelong King’s community that benefits alumni, students and staff alike.
What is it like working at FSD?
We know that building a great working environment will enable us to maximise our support to King’s and its impact goals.
We understand that staff wellbeing relies on a flexible, balanced culture. To this end, our hybrid working policy aims to balance building a cohesive team and helping colleagues manage their other commitments. This involves a minimum of 40% of time on campus, with the remaining time being worked from home, supplemented by options for flexible working.
We also have various initiatives to encourage strong team connection. These include a termly in-person away-day, a much-loved Christmas party and regular activities run by our Wellbeing and Community Group, such as afternoon teas and film screenings.
Our colleagues highlight a culture of trust, caring and openness as some of the reasons they enjoy working in FSD.
We have a strong culture of career progression and are committed to fostering personal and professional growth for all team members.
In addition to the extensive training offered by the University, we have the bespoke ‘FSD Academy’ training and development program. This has included a variety of opportunities, such as:
• A multi-year training programme with a leading external provider, focussed on embedding leading-edge fundraising practice.
• RADA workshops to develop skills and confidence in communicating and story-telling.
• An in-house leadership programme for our managers.
• Coaching for colleagues before, during and after maternity/parental leave.
This program is enriched by opportunities to attend industry-leading conferences.
Diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) are central to our mission and practices.
Each team within our department has worked with an external DEI consultant to create a tailored plan for how they will drive tangible change in our activities and outcomes. Examples include enhancing our recruitment processes to support our objectives around creating a more diverse team and creating a checklist for our events to ensure accessibility. We also provide regular opportunities to hear from experts on various aspects of equity work.

About the Recruitment Process
In F&SD we are committed to ensuring our recruitment process is inclusive and welcoming to all. We want to build a diverse team, which represents the communities served by King’s.
We run an Ask Us Anything sessions whilst advertising a role, which is a chance for all potential candidates to come along and hear about the role and ask any questions they may have.
First stage interviews for all roles will be with the hiring manager and panel. For up to two appointable candidates there will also be a second stage interview based on our core values, where the panel is made up of colleagues from across F&SD.
All vacancies will be advertised on the King’s page and candidates will be asked to upload a CV and cover letter. For more information on the application and recruitment process at King’s please click here.
