Engineering at King’s focuses on the synergies between conventional engineering and leading-edge technologies such as computing and telecommunications, robotics and medicine, signal processing and the digital creative media.

Engineering is central to our daily lives and extends far beyond clichéd associations with construction and manufacturing. Today, some of the greatest advances in engineering are being made in fields such as robotics, biomedicine and IT – areas in which King’s has particular strength.

The unique environment at King’s will enable you to develop expertise in some of the most influential topics of our time. From exploring new technologies in 5G communications, to designing and building heart valves and other biomedical devices, to using computer vision to recognise human emotions, King’s develops engineers for the 21st century.

Our teaching is enhanced by cutting edge facilities and maker spaces, including 3,000 square metres of new labs and social spaces equipped with cutting edge equipment, enabling students to move from theory to problem solving to creating new products. This unique environment aims to nurture and develop world-class transformational activity from King’s engineers.

General Engineering at King's

General Engineers at King’s benefit from a course that builds technical engineering, design and commercial capabilities upon a strong, analytical foundation of mathematics and computing.

You will study topics that include design for engineers, mathematics, computing, robotics, mechatronics, sustainability, electrical engineering, mechanics, materials and manufacturing, and thermo-fluids.

Cutting edge labs and facilities

We offer state-of-the-art engineering laboratories and teaching spaces at the heart of the Strand Campus in London.

The 3,000 square metres of new spaces include experimental research labs equipped with cutting-edge technology, large, flexible spaces for group project work, and maker spaces fitted with tools and equipment, to enable students to move from theory to problem solving to creating new products.

Engineering Outreach

The Engineering Department is committed to building a vibrant and diverse department. One way we are supporting the next generation of engineers is through our outreach programmes, which are targeted to working with young people from groups that are under-represented in the wider engineering sector. Through collaboration with other teams within King’s as well as with external organisations, we are bringing engineering to life for the engineers of the future.
