Research centres & groups

The Department of European & International Studies currently hosts four research groups and two research centres.

Our aim is to produce world leading research in the fields of European studies, European politics and international political economy that contributes not only to scholarship but also has a wider impact in the public and political spheres

Our research groups

The Centre for German Transnational Relations at King’s will act as a local, national and international hub for research on Germany’s past and current transnational relations. The key focus will be on the nexus between politics and culture, and the relations of both to questions of diplomacy, foreign policy, economic policy, cultural policy and different forms of power.

The main focus of the International Political Economy research group is on examining the contemporary global crisis, both in its more structural dimension captured by the current debate on the retreat of globalisation, and in some of its more specific processes. These include the long aftermath of the global financial crisis and the legitimacy of institutions concerned with global governance.
