Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Trust currently hosts the largest Dental teaching Hospital in Europe and works closely with King's as an Academic Health Sciences Centre.
The Hospital contains approximately 250 dental chairs – 240 within the main Dental Hospital at Guy’s and 20 within the Dental Centre at St Thomas’ as well as two day-case theatres.
The main dental hospital at Guy’s hosts just over 80% of the King's undergraduate BDS students spread over 3 main integrated care ‘Teams’. All clinics contain state-of-the-art equipment and have all been refurbished in the last 5 years. In addition, the main hospital at Guy’s hosts over 90% of King's postgraduate clinical students, most of whom work in the dedicated Postgraduate Centre on the 22nd Floor, delivering Orthodontic, Endodontic, Periodontic and Prosthodontic Consultant led clinical care.
The Dental Centre at St Thomas’, co-located with the Evelina London Children’s Hospital, primarily delivers Paediatric Dentistry and hosts King's postgraduate paediatric dental students.
Within the Dental Hospital undergraduate and postgraduate students are taught by King's Clinical Teachers, King's Honorary Consultants and GSTT Consultants.
In addition, the Dental Hospital provides secondary and tertiary care services, and clinical training in all the recognised Dental Specialties.

King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust
King’s is one of the largest and busiest teaching hospitals with a strong profile of local services primarily serving the boroughs of Lambeth, Southwark, Lewisham and Bromley.
The Dental Care Group is one of 19 Care Groups in the Trust. The Care Group is centred on the Dental Hospital at Denmark Hill but also provides services at the Princess Royal Hospital in Farnborough, at Queen Mary’s Hospital in Sidcup and at a large number of community based primary care sites across South London, including the West Norwood Health & Leisure Centre.
The Care Group provides services in oral surgery, oral & maxillofacial surgery, restorative dentistry, dental medicine, orthodontics, paediatric dentistry, special care dentistry, dental & maxillofacial radiology and community dental services.
Working as part of the wider KHP Dental Clinical Academic Group, the Care Group provides clinical placements for a large number of dental undergraduates (largely in Oral Surgery, Paediatric Dentistry, Orthodontics and Primary Dental Care) together with a growing number of dental postgraduates (largely in Endodontics, Orthodontics and Paediatric Dentistry).
The Care Group also provides training programmes for Dental Nurses, for Dental Hygienists & Therapists and a range of post-registration programmes for other Dental Care Professionals.

Our students in years four and five rotate to our partner outreach centres to gain a high-level of clinical experience with patients and state-of-the-art facilities.
The Director of Outreach Dental Training is Dr Igor R. Blum, Consultant in Restorative Dentistry and Reader in Primary Dental Care & Advanced General Dental Practice. Dr Blum oversees the dental services provided in all clinical outreach locations, which cover the breadth and depth of general dental practice and take place under supervision of experienced clinicians with a keen interest in dental education.
The University of Portsmouth Dental Academy
The University of Portsmouth Dental Academy is a state-of-the-art training facility developed in partnership between the University of Portsmouth, King’s College London Faculty of Dentistry, Oral & Craniofacial Sciences and the National Health Service (NHS).
The Dental Academy offers a unique model of team-based education which facilitates a shared learning experience for Dental Care Professional students from the University and final year dental students from King's dentistry. Students and staff operate via four practice teams and an NHS contract which replicates the reality of working in dental practice. Students and staff work clinically in the Dental Academy and across a wide variety of community settings to gain a greater understanding of how to meet the needs of their community.

West Norwood Health & Leisure Centre
The West Norwood Health & Leisure Centre opened in 2014 and is the product of a highly successful £17 million collaboration between King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, King’s College London, Guy’s and St Thomas’ Foundation NHS Trust and Lambeth Council.
The Dental Outreach Centre offers 12 state-of-the-art dental surgeries, some with ceiling mounted microscopes, where final year dental students and dental hygiene & therapy students of King’s College London train and practise as collaborative teams, providing integrated dental care in a true primary care environment; thereby making the transition from University to General Dental (Foundation) Practice a seamless process.
