King’s Experience Cultural Award is a co-curricular programme offering experiential and creative learning outside of your formal studies. You don’t need any prior knowledge of arts and culture to apply, just your curiosity and a commitment to completing the programme which includes self-directed activities and a short reflective assignment.
The award is delivered over 10 consecutive weekly sessions - broadly lasting a term. Sessions are usually 2.5 hours long and take place at the same time each week - although field trips will often start off site so may need additional time to travel to/from.
To qualify for the Award you should be able to:
- DO - Develop and expand knowledge of cultural London through being intellectually and socially curious. Experience a range of cultural venues and opportunities that build on, extend and challenge your existing interests and tastes. Engage positively and open-mindedly with complex and diverse ideas and encounters.
- THINK – Reflect on your experience of arts and cultural London in a variety of different ways. Reflect on how your attitudes and knowledge before the course have shaped your experience and how they might have been challenged.
- SHARE – Creatively, clearly and effectively communicate your arts and cultural experiences. Present your ideas verbally and visually to explore the uniqueness of your individual reflective journey and demonstrate what you have learnt.
To achieve the King's Experience - Cultural Award, you will be asked to reflect on your experience of the programme. You must submit three pieces of work:
- A creative piece - (PLEASE NOTE - you will not be assessed on the ‘quality’ of the artwork but on the intent – as communicated by your supporting text)
- Supporting text description of creative piece (500 words)
- Reflective essay (1000 words)
More information and support will provided during the award sessions.
