Ten galleries for King's students to visit
Across King’s Connected Venues there are several spaces for connecting, engaging and creating. Don’t miss the reopening of King's Science Gallery London from late September. Further afield, King’s Culture have recommended ten student friendly galleries within easy reach from King’s Campuses. From classic masterpieces to cutting-edge digital, there is something for everyone across London’s art scene.

1. 180 The Strand
Neighbouring King’s Strand Campus, 180 The Strand’s brutalist vision is home to a collection of gallery spaces, offices and studios. Head here for some of the freshest, provocative, and leading contemporary art and fashion events in the city. Students are eligible for a concessionary ticket.
2. Hayward Gallery
The Hayward Gallery's year-round exhibition programme focuses on presenting a wide range of exciting and influential artists from across the world. Just a short walk from King’s Strand Campus, the Hayward Gallery at the Southbank Centre offers full-time students 25% discount on all tickets while Lambeth Residents and under 30s can get exhibition tickets for £5.
3. Somerset House
Within the Strand Campus Somerset House is a must see, with a plethora of events and exhibitions on throughout the year, including the popular ice rink. Staging exceptional exhibitions and a range of workshops and events, providing opportunities to engage with artists and makers. Somerset House has a mixture of paid and free events and students are eligible for discounted rates.
4. The Courtauld Gallery
Situated on the Strand, The Courtauld has one of the world’s great art collections, including iconic Impressionist masterpieces such as Manet’s A Bar at the Folies Bergère. The Courtauld and King’s College London collaborate on teaching, research and student experience and students are eligible for a complimentary ticket to the permanent collection and a discounted rate for special exhibitions.
5. ICA
A 20-minute walk from the Strand, The Institute of Contemporary Arts supports ground-breaking art and culture through a programme of exhibitions, films, events, talks and debates. Many of the world’s leading thinkers have given lectures at the ICA, some of which have outlined how we think about culture and society today. People under 26 and students can join as a member for £20 a year and have unlimited free access to exhibitions as well as exclusive discounts at the ICA.

6. Tate Modern
Located between Guy's and the Strand Campus, Tate Modern’s iconic turbine hall is home to over a hundred years of art, from modernism in the early 1900s, to exciting works created today. Tate Modern Lates are fantastic events, bringing together art, live performances, music and workshops, all after hours. Entrance to Tate Modern is free and students are eligible for discounted rates for special exhibitions.
7. White Cube
White Cube’s largest gallery in Bermondsey is just a short walk away from King's Guy's Campus. Since its conception, the gallery has exhibited the work of many of the world’s most highly acclaimed contemporary artists including Tracy Emin, Andreas Gursky, Anselm Kiefer and Mona Hatoum. Plus, it’s free entry for all exhibitions.
8. The National Gallery
The National Gallery is a 20-minute walk from the Strand Campus and houses some of the worlds most important artworks. The collection contains over 2,300 works, including many famous works, such as van Eyck’s Arnolfini Portrait, Velázquez’s Rokeby Venus, Turner’s Fighting Temeraire and Van Gogh’s Sunflowers. Visit the permanent collection for free. Students are eligible for concession rates on all special exhibitions.
9. Bethlem Gallery
Bethlem Gallery is a visual arts organisation in south-east London and works with artists to lead change in health and society. The programme includes creative activities, projects and commissions to participate in, look at, talk and think about. Bethlem Gallery aims to make art an everyday practice and mental health an everyday conversation. Free entry for all.

10. Dulwich Picture Gallery
A short journey from King's Denmark Hill Campus, Dulwich Picture Gallery, located in the charming Dulwich Village is home to a collection of over 600 paintings, including European masterpieces by the likes of Rembrandt, Rubens and Gainsborough, as well as a marvellous programme of special exhibitions and events. Reduced priced tickets available for students and £5 tickets for under 30s.
