Paddy Hartley in the Dental Institute

Since 2002, artist Paddy Hartley has been hosted by the Dental Institute and continues to this day to work in close collaboration with Dr Ian Thompson, a biomaterials scientist and device innovation specialist in the Department of Tissue Engineering and Biophotonics at King's, exploring themes such as memorialisation and remembrance.

Paddy's artistic practice investigates themes including memorialisation and remembrance, the origins of WWI facial reconstruction and those who underwent the surgery. Through his work he has also interpreted the discourse between faith groups and biomedical research, the ethics of human cloning and steroid use and abuse in the bodybuilding community. Art mediums he had explored include biotissue manipulation and assembly, digital photography, digital embroidery, installation, ceramic, and garment assemblage.
