Co-create with us

Our students and staff shape our workshops.

Dr Shuangyu Li, Director - Cultural Competency Unit

Cultural Competency at King's is unique as it is shaped by students and staff alike. There are a number of ways you can help develop cultural competency programmes and get involved in research projects.

How to get involved in shaping the programmes

The best way to get involved is to join The Cultural Competency Co-Creation Steering Group (4C).

The principle of the 4C is to foster collaboration, co-creation, and empowerment. Membership comprises of the university’s cultural competency experts and champions, many of whom have been on King’s journey towards institutional cultural competency from the beginning. We seek to provide an open and supportive platform for networking and peer-support to both colleagues and students who wish to develop these projects.

Members of the 4C can form Special Interest Groups (SIG) to carry out specific research or educational projects. Please see below for more information about forming a SIG.

How to join the 4C

The 4C is held four times a year, To find out when the next 4C is being held, please contact cultural-competency@kcl.ac.uk.

Everyone is welcome.

How to create a SIG

Anyone can send in an application to be badged as a 4C Special Interest Group (SIG). To be badged as a 4C SIG, the initiator should complete this online proposal, which will be considered by the 4C members. A 4C SIG should work towards a defined educational, research or impact goal of developing cultural competency programmes or interventions.   A 4C SIG needs to have at least two co-leads and members with the appropriate experience and expertise.

Apply to be a a 4C Special Interest Group (SIG). This link will take you to a form that will ask you to explain in some detail your idea for a SIG including its aims, rationale, approach and resources required. Depending on how well developed and documented your idea already is, it might take you 20 - 30 minutes to complete. If you would like to discuss your idea before completing this form, please email cultural-competency@kcl.ac.uk and come along to a 4C meeting.

Application form.

The 4C group is not a regulatory body, so anyone can carry out cultural competency work. However, a Badged 4C CC SIG will benefit from having access to peer support from its members, who are colleagues from the multidisciplinary and inter-professional College, as well as the cultural competency student champions. As the 4C is informed by the King’s CC Advisory Board, chaired by Profs ‘Funmi Olonisakin and Marian Thain, SIGs’ work will be informed by the advisory board and may feed into King’s internationalisation strategy.
