The Essential Digital Skills Programme aims to ensure that King’s students learn the digital skills required to support their academic, professional, and personal development.
The programme focuses on teaching five main themes:
- Online learning platform (KEATS)
- Digital tools to equip students for success
- Being a good digital citizen
- Wellbeing in the digital world
- Resources for studies
Students will work through the online content, and complete short assessments (such as quizzes) to measure and reinforce learning.
Students will learn:
- How to use the required IT systems to support their academic development and gain confidence in their use.
- About key services, systems and processes that are available to support their academic, professional, and personal development.
- How to be a good digital citizen and develop a positive digital identity.
- About the digital skills required by employers.
Additional benefits include:
- The Programme is free.
- Receive a digital certificate from King’s College London.
- Receive a Higher Education Achievement Report (HEAR) accreditation (if applicable) when you complete the programme and pass the assessments. The HEAR accreditation will be added to your university transcript so that prospective employers know that you completed the Essential Digital Skills Programme.

- It is a fully online programme that will be delivered via KEATS.
- The entire programme can be completed in within 30 hours.
- The programme is self-paced so you can work through the content at a pace that suits you.
- The programme is optional, so you can complete the whole programme or just access the content you need.
- The programme is open to all King's students.
- The programme is particularly beneficial to undergraduate and postgraduate students in their first year at King's.
- The programme is not compulsory. Students have the option to take the programme alongside their studies.
