What is the staff digital skills programme?
The staff digital skills programme is a Digital Literacy Programme on KEATS in which teaching staff can enrol and work through flexibly alongside their teaching commitments.
The programme will cover the six elements of digital capabilities as outlined by JISC, which are:
- ICT Proficiency (Functional Skills)
- Information, data and media literacies (Critical)
- Digital creation, problem solving and innovation (Creative production)
- Digital communication, collaboration, and participation (Participation)
- Digital learning and Development (Development)
- Digital identity and wellbeing (Self-actualising)
These 6 elements are contextualised to teaching at King’s and translate into 5 themes which are:
- Platforms and tools to support teaching at King's- Introductions, set up and administration.
- Digital tools to support teaching at King's - Engagement/ interaction and evaluation
- Being a good digital citizen
- Wellbeing in the digital world
- Resources to support your development as a teacher
Why was the staff digital skills programme created?
- The digital world is changing at a fast rate, and it can sometimes be challenging to keep up to date with changes to the education technology required to deliver teaching and assessments.
- The staff digital skills programme aims to alleviate some of these challenges, by providing short, tailored and just in time tutorials and resources to better equip staff to keep up with the pace of change.
- There is currently a student digital skills programme at King’s, so the staff digital skills programme will provide an equivalent programme for staff, and better standardise the staff and student experience.
What are the benefits of the staff digital skills programme?
- Learn how to access, set up, and use the required IT and digital tools to support their teaching and gain confidence in their use.
- Learn about key services, systems and processes that are available to support their academic, professional, and personal development
- Provides more flexibility for staff who find it difficult to attend physical or set sessions due to teaching and other commitments
Delivery method and time commitment
- The programme is fully online and will be delivered on KEATS
- It is self-paced so staff can work through the programme at a pace that suits them
- The whole programme can take approximately 25 hours to complete, however staff can choose to only access the content they want
Who is the programme for?
- The programme is designed for staff that are involved with teaching (educators at King’s).
- The programme will particularly benefit staff that are new to King’s.
How to join?
Staff can self-enrol onto the programme via Course: Staff Essential Digital Skills Programme 24/25 | KEATS when it launches on Wednesday 4th December.
