Teaching and Learning Accessibility

The Digital Education Accessibility Task and Finish Group was an interdisciplinary group with members from across the university, including staff and students. The group developed the Digital Accessibility Baseline, it outlines the core Principles for digital education accessibility, particularly for KEATS areas, and guidance for how to interpret and enact them. 

Student feedback was unanimous: these standards, if implemented, will greatly enhance the student experience at King’s and greatly enable high-quality learning outcomes.

Other priority areas identified for improvement are:

Consistent method of module organisation in KEATS.

Ability to receive notifications when deadlines and assessment materials are uploaded/updated, and ability to turn off forum notifications.

Development of "dashboard" on KEATS to show deadlines, tasks, and timetables across modules.

Clearer information about assessments including formative assessment/practice assessment options, past papers and sample answers, and information about when, how, and where feedback will be received.

Lecture slides and PowerPoints provided in advance of synchronous sessions.

Streamline types of documents and methods of communication to reduce the number of documents that must be simultaneously open and reduce the number of sources of information (i.e. KEATS, email, timetabling, Teams) to coordinate.

CTEL are currently working with faculties to implement the Digital Accessibility Baseline. We are also working with colleagues to address the priority areas.
