Chemistry is known as the central science because it lies at the interface of the physical and life sciences, making it essential to understanding a variety of different fields in the sciences.

Studying chemistry enables students to understand the laws that govern the behaviour of atoms and molecules, their interactions and reactions, and in turn, the world around us. Chemistry at King’s combines rigorous training in the discipline with an understanding of the interdisciplinary context, designed to produce a new generation of scientists fluent across traditional subject boundaries.

At King’s, curiosity-driven teaching integrates all areas of the discipline, our courses provide rigorous training in chemistry foundations with the application of chemical principles and techniques to a wide range of problems in the context of cutting-edge research in science and medicine across King’s. The collaborative spirit and emphasis on the cross-fertilisation of physical and biological sciences, enables our graduates to harness the transformative power of chemistry to tackle emerging challenges in modern society and medicine.

Chemistry Outreach

We are passionate about creating a diverse and inclusive culture within our department. We want to make sure that we represent the cultural and ethnic diversity that surrounds us in the heart of central London whilst providing a stimulating learning environment. In order to do this, we are trying to create close collaborations with local schools and form lasting relationships with students to support them on their academic journeys into higher education.
