The Yeoh Tiong Lay Centre for Politics, Philosophy and Law was founded in 2014 as a focal point for interdisciplinary research in law from the perspective of both philosophy and politics. Although based in The Dickson Poon School of Law, the Centre has close links with the Departments of Philosophy and Political Economy.
The Centre's goal is to foster interdisciplinary research involving politics, philosophy, and law within King's, while simultaneously bridging the gap between these academic disciplines and public decision-making. The aim is to illuminate the major questions of our day through the application of rigorous interdisciplinary thought in politics, philosophy and law.
The work of the Centre underpins the teaching of King’s Politics, Philosophy & Law (PPL) LLB degree. Launched in 2012, the PPL degree is a unique programme in the UK that allows students to fulfil the requirements of a qualifying law degree while being able to choose from a range of modules in philosophy and political economy.
The Centre hosts the well-known KJuris workshops - legal philosophy workshops at King's - which are high-level public events featuring visiting speakers that are also open to the public. Previous and forthcoming speakers include distinguished thinkers such as Antony Duff, Seana Shiffrin, T.M. Scanlon, Miranda Fricker and Jeff McMahan.
Professor Massimo Renzo is Director of the Yeoh Tiong Lay Centre.
