What kickstarted and inspired you to start a podcast?
Coming from a science background, I would often get frustrated with how scientific information can be distorted in the media. Through meeting and interacting with people in my own life, I have seen how this has an effect on personal beliefs. During my third-year lectures, I was inspired by the expertise of my university professors and thought to myself... "Wow - they're speaking facts right now, people need to listen to what they have to say!"
This eventually led me to reaching out and interviewing them myself as I wanted to make their knowledge more accessible. I chose to do so in a podcast format so I could reach a wider audience, including those who may not have time to read or have never thought to learn about a particular topic.
How did you go from having the idea to releasing your first episode? What was involved?
Great question! I'll be honest, there are a lot of steps involved. I started by reaching out to a few people within my network to see which experts I could find with valuable information. From this, I compiled a list of people to contact and developed a clear vision of the style and visuals I wanted for my podcast.
For each episode, I select and research a topic before reaching out to an expert or academic in the field. Once agreed, I book a studio, conduct more research and prepare my own questions. I taught myself how to use the necessary equipment and software so I can record and edit the episode myself. Finally, I create social media posts, inform the academic, and officially release the episode.
How has being a Gamechanger helped your podcast?
The Entrepreneurship Institute's Gamechangers programme has empowered me to be bolder in pursuing my personal goals. The supportive environment, with everyone eager to help, is incredible - you just need to ask. The workshops are particularly useful - the networking session was my favourite as it offered valuable tips about promoting yourself and engaging with people you may not feel comfortable in doing so (but I am a big believer in having a diverse network so maybe I am biased...)!
