Where should I stay when I'm studying at King's?
Jack, and Adult Nursing student, shares his experience of choosing accomodation.
Part of the university experience for me was the thought of living in student accommodation, so I knew I would definitely apply for university’s own accommodation as soon as I received my offer. People have always asked why I didn’t choose to rent privately. My reasons were because in the university’s accommodation, you don’t need to worry about utility bills, contracts or WIFI. The application for King’s Accommodation was very straightforward for me, the interface and website provides all the support and information you need. Also, the application itself was quick to complete and you would get a response shortly after. If you do find issues and questions along the way, the accommodation team are easily accessible, you can contact them via phone, email or online chat; this reassured me, as I know if I ever have any problems in the future there is someone I can contact easily.
Living in London is all about the area and mine has been perfect. As a nursing student, my main thought was how close my accommodation was to the hospital and to the main campuses. I was assigned to King’s Champion Hill accommodation which is perfect for me, it is in Zone 2 but I would not let that put you off. You can easily get from Champion Hill to central London within 20 minutes by Train from Denmark Hill Station. Living in Zone 2 has benefits as well, it is a quieter area in comparison to some residences in Zone 1, which is great when you have deadlines coming or if you just need to get some revision done. Champion Hill Residence itself is a large residence with a lot of onsite facilities (Common room, game room, music rooms, gyms, pond). The students living here range from international students from all countries around the world, as well as ‘home’ students such as myself. It is a fantastic place to meet new friends and get to know different cultures. I have lived in this particular accommodation for close to 2 years now and have met some fantastic people that I have made good relationships with. There is a lovely atmosphere and everyone shows great community spirit. If you enjoy having a lot of social interactions then student halls are made for you.
It is definitely a fantastic experience living in the capital. You will certainly never run out of things to do on weekends. There are a variety of activities that are suited to everyone’s interests. I love visiting the numerous parks and gardens in London. Most museums are free to enter and there are always new exhibitions coming to London. My favourite places to visit are the Natural History Museum, where you can see ‘Archie the Squid’.
