Two Florence Nightingale Faculty members receive Teaching Excellence Awards

Congratulations to the two staff members who have been awarded a King’s College London’s prestigious Teaching Excellence Awards for 2018.

The winners are: Dr Shawn Walker from the Department of Midwifery who received an award for Inclusive Education. This award recognises an individual (or group) who shows commitment and dedication to creating a diverse and inclusive environment, through curriculum content and design, teaching practice, and supporting students and colleagues. Ms Nicola Davis from the Department of Adult Nursing, was recognised for Student Support. This award recognises an individual (or groups) who frequently goes the extra mile to support students, and are always open to offering help and guidance outside of their teaching responsibilities.

Dr Walker said:

'I am especially honoured by this award because the selection process is led by students. My students inspire me to continually challenge myself and others to become aware of how our ways of being include or exclude others, and to consider how midwives can be advocates for those who are marginalised, invisible or voiceless in our society.'

Ms Davis said:

'I would like to express my gratitude for receiving this award recognising my contribution to student support. It has been a pleasure to work with the 2015 BSc Adult Nursing students over the last three years and I look forward to celebrating the completion of their programme with them soon.'
