Accommodation: Hannah's story
My days of living in halls were great fun when I was at university the first time, but now I have my own home so I commute in to study at King’s. I’m not unusual, lots of my friends on the course live at home on their own or with their families, as well as in all sorts of other different types of accommodation including university halls and flat shares, in London and beyond. All these options and more can work alongside training to be a nurse.
Most of my lectures and seminars are at Waterloo or London Bridge, which are both really easy to get to. An important consideration for me when I started the course, was that I could make it to hospital on public transport in time for an early start and get home safely after a late finish. Fortunately the Placements Team take into account where students live and I’m allocated to a Trust that is very convenient to get to. One of the major benefits of studying nursing at King’s is that we are based at the same hospital throughout our course, unlike some universities where students are expected to move around frequently. This means I don’t have to navigate a new journey every time I start a new placement and that’s a bonus.
Being in London, the transport links are excellent and even if there are delays or travel difficulties, which naturally do occur, I don’t get stressed about it. There is usually an alternative route and I leave plenty of time for my journey so I always make it to placement on time.
Whatever your circumstances, there will be the right accommodation option for you and there is lots of support through student services to help you find the right place to call home.
