The International Scientific Advisory Board visit 2017

The International Scientific Advisory Board (ISAB) visited the Florence Nightingale Faculty of Nursing, Midwifery & Palliative Care again this year. The ISAB welcomed three new members Professor Linda McGill-Hall from the University of Toronto, Professor Caroline Homer from University of Technology Sydney and Professor Marilyn Hockenberry from Duke University. Professor Patricia Davidson (Johns Hopkins University) also attended on her 3rd and final visit.
Colleagues met the ISAB members and had opportunities to discuss their research and career development with them in various meetings and workshops run throughout the week. Professor McGillis-Hall also delivered a keynote presentation on ‘Nursing workforce, work environments and outcomes: Canadian context’ through which she shared her own research career experiences and described the development of nursing from the Canadian perspective.
At the end of the week the ISAB reported to the Research Executive that they had heard and seen the great research that is taking place in the Faculty, and how the Faculty is probably the global leader in intervention development and patient engagement. The ISAB commended the openness of the Faculty to submit themselves to this type of peer review process, which they thought assisted us in learning and in developing many new collaborative opportunities. The ISAB also made a number of suggestions about how we could continue to develop our research activity and these will be detailed currently in their full report, which will be made available once it is received.
Professor Alison Metcalf, the Faculty’s Vice-Dean for Research, said: ‘I want to acknowledge and thank everyone who took part in the visit to make it so successful, to all the colleagues who took part in the week’s events and to the ISAB members who freely give us a week of their time from their busy schedules and share their experience and expertise.’
