Perseverance Trust Scholarship 2016/17 recipients announced

This year the Florence Nightingale Faculty of Nursing & Midwifery made five scholarships available for BSc nursing and midwifery three year degree students, and five scholarships for Postgraduate Diploma in Nursing students. The scholarships, which are worth £7,500, for undergraduate students, and £5,000 for postgraduate diploma students, have been established through a generous gift from the Perseverance Trust. They are awarded as recognition of academic standing and financial circumstances, and can be used to fund living expenses during the full length of the programme.

This 2016/17 recipients of the Perseverance Trust Undergraduate Scholarship are Rachel Williams, Marija Dainyte, Naoise Standing and Fahima Begum.

Naoise Standing said, “For me, the scholarship will help to make my life at home a lot better. It will provide me and my family with some financial stability which will enable me to continue my studies at Kings! Having wanted to be a nurse since I was young, the scholarship is providing me with the chance to make my dream a reality.”

Fahima Begum said, "I felt ecstatic when I received the Perseverance Trust Scholarship because it is a reward that represents the hard work and dedication that I applied in order to become a student nurse at King's College."

The 2016/17 recipients of the Perseverance Trust Postgraduate Diploma Scholarship are Matija Casl and Laura Fishbourne.

Laura Fishbourne said, “The scholarship means that I will be able to avoid working whilst undertaking the course, so that I can focus wholeheartedly on qualifying as a nurse. As a graduate, it also means that I can avoid incurring any additional debt, for which I am very grateful.”

All of the recipients of the scholarship demonstrated that they had exceeded their UCAS offer, were in good academic standing and provided evidence of financial need. They also submitted a written statement of 300-500 words.

Professor Ian Norman, Executive Dean of the Faculty, King’s College London said, “Many congratulations to the recipients of the Perseverance Trust undergraduate and postgraduate diploma scholarships. We are grateful to the Perseverance Trust for their generous gift, which has allowed us to offer our students an opportunity to receive additional financial support to help them through their studies at the Florence Nightingale Faculty of Nursing & Midwifery, and make the most of the opportunities offered by attending one of the world’s top universities. There are a number of scholarship opportunities available to students wanting to study at King’s which I would encourage prospective students to look into.”
