Panel debates student bursaries
The Nightingale Student Council (NSC) held a ‘Question Time’-style panel debate on 15 March at King's Waterloo campus.
Panellists drawn from across the nursing and midwifery sectors discussed issues around student bursaries. They also highlighted potential implications for the wider health service, including for mentorship programmes and workforce planning.
Panel members included representatives from the Royal College of Nursing, the Council of the Deans of Health, Royal College of Midwives, King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and NHS England.
King’s Nursing and Midwifery Faculty was represented on the panel by Professor Jill Maben and adult nursing student Jacob Smith.
Jonathan Hayton, Chair of the NSC introduced the panel and managed questions and comments from the audience.
A government consultation on student bursaries is due to open in April.
