King's students become Student Nursing Times editors

Congratulations to Anna Merrick, a BSc Midwifery student, and Anthony Johnson, a BSc Adult Nursing student, both at the Florence Nightingale Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery, who will represent nursing and midwifery students through their editorship roles with the Student Nursing Times.

The Student Nursing Times is a resource for all nursing and midwifery students to learn about making the most of their placements, find career and exam advice, and read blogs from other students.

Anna said: “I applied to become a Midwifery Editor of the Student Nursing Times in the hope of welcoming the voice of midwifery and King’s College London to such a great platform. I feel so grateful and privileged to be the first ever person to represent midwifery students for the Student Nursing Times. I hope to reach out to readers of the Student Nursing Times, bringing the bumpy, day-in-the-life road of midwifery under the spotlight that it deserves."

Anthony, also taking on his role as Student Affairs editor in September, is the President of the King's Nursing and Midwifery society and the Vice-Chair of the Nightingale Student Council, and has a keen interest in current affairs and issues impacting the nursing profession. His first Student Nursing Times blog post will be published in early October.

Anthony said: “I applied to be an editor because I wanted to continue the energy that began with our students' #BursaryOrBust campaign. As modern nursing began in our Faculty, it seems appropriate that we can rely on Nightingale students to show the same passion as our namesake by creating such a positive campaign that promotes the profession and its significance to healthcare in this country. I plan to speak out for students and their forgotten voices by reminding them that when a few passionate individuals come together, they can create a movement that affects us all.”

Congratulations to both student editors, and we look forward to reading their blogs from October.
