King's Research Student receives an award at RCN Conference
Congratulations to Sarah McAllister (MRes student), on receiving an award for “Best Concurrent Session” at the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) 22nd International Network for Psychiatric Research Conference (NPNR). Sarah presented her research, titled: ‘The therapeutic role of mental health nurses in psychiatric intensive care: a mixed methods investigation in an inner city mental health service.’
NPNR is the leading annual conference for mental health nurses to share knowledge, engage in debates, and gain new insights, to advance psychiatric care. This year’s conference was held in Nottingham on September 15 and 16, featuring talks from influential figures in the field of mental health.
On receiving her award, Sarah said, “I am honoured to be the lucky recipient of this award. It shows that early career researchers are able to make an impact with their work, and I would encourage any students thinking of a career in research to go for it! I am very grateful to the research participants and my supervisor Dr Niall McCrae for making this study possible.”
Sarah studied for her undergraduate Mental Health Nursing degree and Masters in Clinical Research at King's and will be returning to undertake her PhD. She said, “Having experienced the high quality teaching and support at King’s, I knew it was where I wanted to pursue my PhD. I was fortunate to be successful in gaining a Nightingale PhD scholarship and I am very excited to further the research I did for my MRes project by aiming to improve therapeutic engagement in acute psychiatric wards using an Experience Based Co-Design method.”
More information on the conference and a book of presentation abstracts is available on the RCN website.
