In July 2016, a group of twelve delegates from Nanjing Health School (NJHS) visited King’s College London for an educational trip lasting three weeks, including classes, clinical visits and some social activities. The group was led by Ms Tang Xiaoxi, Vice Principal for Education, as part of the ongoing collaboration between NJHS and the Florence Nightingale Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery.

The delegates had tours of King’s College London facilities, including the Franklin-Wilkins Library, where they were excited to explore the nursing and midwifery collection, and were very interested to hear about the library-based training, and the lending of e-books and online journals, all of which are made available to students.

Ms Zhao Ping, Director of Nursing Department, said that the group were also looking forward to visiting Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust. She commented, “We want to learn about the most advanced nursing practice.”

She added, “I’m looking forward to finding out more about the model of nursing here, and also the management of nursing in the UK.”

Mr Sun Xueming, Head of the Student Affairs Department, agreed, saying “Nursing here is very scientific and well managed. I think there are many areas we can learn from.”

For the delegates, this trip is an opportunity to bring back key learning to put into practice in nursing education at home. Ms Li Jing, Vice Director of Teaching and Research Department, said, “The thing I really wanted to find out about was evidence-based practice – how you develop this module here, and how we can develop this module back in China, and incorporate this element into our different programmes.”

The group evaluated their visit positively and were impressed with the commitment of all the staff they met.
